Stake's Brazilian lifeline lasted about a day: a São Paulo court let it keep operating until October 25, then an appeals court suspended that order and the site went dark again. Meanwhile the biggest crypto casino is entering a licensed market in Alberta, and iGaming regulators in the US keep pressing offshore operators.
Brazil: Stake's reprieve is suspended
Brazil's betting ban (Provisional Measure 1,394, signed by President Lula) took licensed operators offline in early October. On October 8 a federal judge in São Paulo partly granted Stake an injunction that barred authorities from terminating its licence or blocking its domain before October 25, with conditions such as keeping withdrawals open and running no promotions. The ruling covered Stake alone.
- On October 9 the president of the TRF-3 appeals court suspended the injunction at the government's request, citing the asymmetry of letting one operator run while others were barred.
- Stake's Brazilian site went offline again, and reports say player refunds are due by October 14.
- A Supreme Court decision on the measure is still pending, so the fight is not over.
For on-chain data, Brazil is the market to watch: offshore brands' share of demand rose sharply as the ban approached, according to Blask figures reported by trade press, so any shift will show up in where crypto casino deposits come from.
Canada: Stake licensed in Alberta
Stake Canada has registered with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission and is targeting an October 12 launch of a licensed casino and sportsbook. Coverage says it still needs a commercial operating agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation before it can take wagers, and that operators must leave the province's grey market by October 13. We could not confirm a go-live at the time of writing.
United States: Michigan sends 33 cease-and-desist letters
The Michigan Gaming Control Board sent cease-and-desist letters to 33 unlicensed offshore operators offering casino games, sweepstakes-style games or sports betting to residents. The board's stated concern is that offshore sites do not honour Michigan's self-exclusion database. It follows letters to 45 operators earlier this year, and further action through the state attorney general is possible.

- Stake's Alberta go-live and how many operators take a licence versus exit.
- More US state letters aimed at offshore crypto casino brands.
